Katie's Recital

Katie had her recital today. She loves her dance class. Her teacher is fantastic and she put together a wonderful show. Katie was great...of course. She did a ballet dance as a bumble bee and then a tap dance as a caterpillar.

We went to the aquarium and so I made this slide show for your enjoyment. The storm pictures are from a storm we had a couple of weeks ago and I never posted but I think they're pretty cool. Mike took them.

They make me laugh...out loud

Katie often tells me, "you lied to me". Then she tells me something that I allegedly promised to do but failed to do and that is how I lied. Occasionally I am guilty. More often than not, I just haven't gotten around to delivering the so called promise...because it's only been about 10 seconds and I'm doing the laundry and washing the dishes and cooking dinner so give me a break already. And then there are times when she really made the whole thing up. So, I'm used to her calling me out on the real or imagined short-comings of my mothering techniques. Today's berating was especially entertaining though. She put on her stormtrooper helmet and sat next to me on the couch. Then she said, "you lied to me. You said you would get me juice and you didn't. You lied...and then she made the sound Darth Vader makes when he breathes. I was almost crying I was laughing so hard.

To the two readers following my blog, you may remember that Tommy is really into bees. He found this video on YouTube of 30 hornets wiping out a beehive of 30,000. It's a bit disturbing. Katie should probably call me out for allowing him to watch this video. Anyway, since he really likes bees, he finds the video very sad. So he told me today that he's going to invent armor for bees. He will put it on them when they are in the pupa stage so they will be protected right away. Then when the hornets try to bite them, they will be like, "huh?". What a tenderhearted, creative and funny little guy.

Happy Easter

I hope everyone had a nice holiday. We did. We were hoping to go out to Utah for Easter but we each took a turn with strep throat instead. Since my mom spent all of last week in the hospital with a blood clot in her lung, we didn't want to risk bringing any illness her way. She is home now and doing better but she is still having a hard time. I hope we can recover here so we can be with her soon.

The kids set up this lovely little scene for the Easter Bunny's enjoyment. They did a great job on their eggs this year. I love family traditions. I also love that through all of the egg hunts and candy, they still know why we celebrate Easter.

Egg hunting is a serious business. Just ask Tommy.We ordered this tadpole several weeks ago. Tommy has been so excited for it to get here. Now that he's here...well he's really not all that exciting. I think when he starts to change into a frog, we'll all start paying attention again. I had Tommy point to him to show how tiny he is.

To Utah again...

We went to Salt Lake earlier this month to see Disney on Ice with my sister and her family, to see my nephew perform in The Music Man and of course to visit the grandmas.

Just like these kids, I was mesmerized. I thought it was a fantastic show! I remember when my dad took our family to see the Ice Capades at the Salt Palace when I was a kid. My dad and I were both afraid of heights so we left our seats to stand closer to the ice. I always wanted to be an ice skater but I never took lessons. I still love to watch it. My only complaint was that the concessions were criminally expensive. I just can't bring myself to pay $15 for a snow cone + $2 for a spoon. Does that make me an unfit parent? The people at the booth would have us all believe that yes it does.

We splurged on cotton candy. Katie only wanted it for the mustache. She also ended up with mustaches on her hands. Oh the sticky delicious joys of cotton candy.

I don't care who you are, these cars are dang cute.

The Music Man curtain call

Here is Zach in the Music Man. He did an outstanding job! The whole play went really well. I can't believe how grown up he is.

Mike is always willing to help my mom with projects. He's such a good son-in-law. This mountain ash is dying (dead) and needs to be cut down. It used to be a beautiful tree when I was a kid. Mike is climbing it to determine how to cut it down while avoiding all the power lines on either side and the house in the back. I am ready to drive him to the emergency room.My big brave lumberjack.We were fortunate to have some good weather days while we were in Salt Lake. We went with my sister and her kids to the zoo to celebrate her birthday. Yes, Katie adores her cousin.
In an open display of childhood rebellion, this little monkey sat chewing on a twig. Would he get away with it?Nope, mom told him no chewing twigs for the last time. Now she would have to sit on his head. Monkey discipline.


Who doesn't love a baby elephant? Seriously, she's the cutest thing I have seen. My sister and I discussed stealing her but then we thought about the clean up and decided just to visit her now and then.

It was a great visit. We did so much in such a short period of time. My mom is doing pretty well. She is very tired. The treatment for this disease at times seems more harsh than the disease itself. She has just eight more treatments to go!

Then we got home just in time for the first day of Spring!
