Christmas Vacation

We drove out to Utah for Christmas this year. We were tired of the snowless state of Colorado and knew that Utah could provide it. They didn't have snow on the ground when we got there, but the day after Christmas, finally delivered. We stopped in Laramie on the way there and back to make it a shorter drive. We woke up on Christmas Eve and the kids sang all morning that Santa was coming. We went to breakfast in the hotel and the other guests (there weren't very many at all) were laughing at the kids singing about going to Grandma's in their PJs because we let them go to breakfast that way. My sister made an amazing Christmas Eve dinner and we got to hear all the kids play the piano or tell a story. It was really nice.
The kids had a great time playing with their grandmas and their cousins and uncles and aunt. I got to see some friends that I don't get to see that much and Mike got to see his brother who he doesn't get to see often. it was just a really fun trip. When the kids were opening their presents, Tommy said, "Santa got me everything I wanted and needed...this is the best Christmas ever!" I think I liked the dollhouse Katie got even more than she did. Tommy's favorite present was his electric circuit board. It is pretty cool and he can do different experiments with it. Katie loved playing in the snow. We had a hard time getting her to come back in most days. I gained a lot of weight from all the delicious food which I now have to lose. All in all it was a fun trip and I hope you all had a great holiday too. Now back to the real world.

Getting ready for Christmas

Why is everybody so tired?
We've been getting ready for Christmas. Decorating, parties, recitals, etc. This is actually the kids decorating the tree and not a staged photo of them by the tree when it is clearly already decorated.Katie had her dance recital on Saturday. It makes me a little uncomfortable putting this much makeup on my 5 year old but what can you do. They did dances from the Nutcracker. It was wonderful.

I did tell Katie to smile. Here and during her dance...but she refused. I think she was concentrating pretty hard. She did really well though. This is the video from the dress rehearsal. I was able to be a little more obnoxious about getting close to the stage during the rehearsal so this ended up being a better video.

Tommy had his piano recital on Monday. He just started lessons in September. He did such a great job! I was so proud of him.

I am just so thankful to have time to spend with the family. The kids are growing up so fast and we are loving every minute. Merry Christmas!

First flight

Yesterday we took the kids flying in a Cessna 172 for the first time. They were excited to go and it was really fun. It was such a pretty day, we thought it was about time we took them up.
They loved talking on the headsets. They kept saying, "Do you read me?" and "Yes, I have you loud and clear". Where do they get this stuff?
