First Day of School

Katie started preschool last Tuesday. She met her teacher the Friday before. Miss Sue is a friend of mine and I was so thrilled when I heard she was going to teach preschool in her home. I asked Katie if she was excited to go to school and she said, "Oh, I know Miss Sue". She is so funny. I never know if she's going to be shy in a situation or completely comfortable. Luckily, this time she decided to be completely comfortable.
Tommy started kindergarten two days later. He is going to a charter school that was just built by our home. He has to wear a uniform so don't think we are just trying to get him beat up. I'm actually really glad they are required to wear uniforms. Now I don't have to worry about the kid next to him having 30 body piercings. (Not that there's anything wrong with that) It also makes school shopping really easy. I think since Mike and I have been in the military so long, it seemed pretty natural. The thing I really like about this school is that there is a strong focus on character development. Tommy was also pretty relaxed and excited for school. I had to hide my own nervousness so I didn't rub off on him. I didn't cry when we dropped him off, but I wanted to. When did my babies get so big?

He made it through the day. Here is his teacher walking him out to the car. The whole drop-off/pick-up plan had to be revised a couple of times but the school is pretty good about letting us know what the deal is. On the second day of school, Mike and I rode our bikes and the kids rode in a bike trailer (attached to Mike's bike). Tommy really liked going to school that way. I liked not having to deal with the traffic.
Once they were home, it was business as usual...

Wow, they are getting so big. Do you miss them all day now that they are both in school?

Mary,
I do. Luckily Tommy is in school just in the mornings and Katie only goes two days a week for two hours. I miss them while they're gone though and I look forward to the weekends;). Your little ones are so cute and getting so big!
